Undergraduate Student Taiwan Studies Writing Award

The Undergraduate Student Center for Taiwan Studies Writing Award recognizes outstanding examples of writing in an essay, seminar paper or honors thesis produced during the current academic year in any humanities or social science discipline that contributes to knowledge in Taiwan Studies, broadly defined. The prize will be awarded in spring, and the winner will receive a certificate and $500.

Application Deadline: 30 May 2022

Eligible Students: All currently-enrolled UCSB students

Application Instructions: Submit the following items by email to eastasian-taiwanstudies@ucsb.edu:

  • Current CV
  • One Taiwan Studies paper/essay (minimum 5000 words)

Graduate Student Taiwan Studies Writing Award

The Graduate Student Center for Taiwan Studies Writing Award recognizes outstanding examples of writing in an essay or seminar paper produced during the current academic year in any humanities or social science discipline that contributes to knowledge in Taiwan Studies, broadly defined. The prize will be awarded in fall, and the winner will receive a certificate and $1000.

Eligible Students: All currently-enrolled UCSB graduate students

  • One Taiwan Studies paper/essay (minimum 7000 words)

Graduate Student Summer Dissertation Research Grant

One Center for Taiwan Studies Graduate Research Grant of $6,000 is available for Summer 2022. The Award will support dissertation research in Taiwan Studies through either pre-doctoral intensive summer research in any field of the humanities or social sciences or advanced language training in Taiwan. The research must lead to new advances in Taiwan Studies.  A competitive application includes a plan and rationale for the research activity or intensive language training (max. 750 words), a budget, and a letter from the main advisor that situates the summer project within the larger trajectory towards the degree. Please note that the usual rules regarding eligibility to receive fellowship funds apply.

  • One short letter of support from the main dissertation advisor (emailed by the professor directly to CTS)

National Taiwan University–Research Center for Digital Humanities

Taiwan Colonial Court Records Archive Researchers must submit an application to NTU’s special collection archivists to access the TCCRA. If their research request is approved, they are given an account with unlimited access to the archive for two years.
